क्षमा  शोभती  उस भुजंग को जिसके पास गरल है
उसका क्या जो दंतहीन विषरहित विनीत सरल है

लो अतीत से उतना ही जितना पोषक है
जीर्ण शीर्ण का मोह मृत्यू का द्योतक है

  India’s logistics ecosystem sits at a pivotal juncture. The National Logistics Policy (NLP), launched in September 2022, was designed to transform the sector from a costly, fragmented system into an integrated, technology-driven network, aiming to reduce logistics costs from 13–14 per cent to 8 per cent of GDP by 2030, thereby boosting trade competitiveness, productivity, and employment. Complementing this has been the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (2021), which seeks to knit multiple modes of transport into a seamless grid of connectivity, anchored by multimodal logistics parks and coordinated infrastructure planning.   Indian Railways (IR), by far the greenest and most energy-efficient mode, was expected to be the backbone of this transformation. I had joined Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi, in 2001, still the new face in the unit, learning the smell of its steel, diesel and bureaucracy as yet. Before I could settle into my role, the General Manager decided to hand me another hat, that of Honorary General Secretary of the Sports Association, perhaps because I had active interest in sports. It sounded straightforward enough. Then they told me I would be assisted by one Mohammad Shahid, the Assistant Sports Officer. Mohammad Shahid! Even the name was enough to make the air stand still.
